I Congressi UIA si svolgono ogni tre anni e raccolgono migliaia di architetti e di studenti di architettura da tutti i paesi del mondo.
Il Congresso si svolge attorno ad un tema che personalità eminenti della comunità internazionale degli architetti sono invitati a sviluppare, mentre la sezione nazionale del paese ospitante è responsabile della organizzazione congressuale.

Dibattiti, mostre, viste guidate e festival costituiscono una piattaforma unica per lo scambio di contatti culturali tra colleghi architetti e studenti.

Sono 22 i Congressi organizzati dal 1948.
