Transmitting the Sustainable City The case study of Basse di Stura Transmitting the sustainable city is a project that contributes to the heightening of awareness about eco-sustainability in the urban environment, projected towards a more responsible future and new cultural attitudes. A process illustrating short, medium and long-term strategies and actions that does not involve only the technical and academic world and the public administrations, but is also aimed, first and foremost, at the citizens themselves. Public agencies and private concerns from the Piedmont have concentrated their efforts on the area of Basse di Stura, on the outskirts of Turin - a zone at serious environmental and urban risk - a section of the city whose size, position, characteristics and complexity require a sustainable development plan that takes into account environmental, economic and social aspects in an integrated project designed to improve the quality of urban living, with the participation and governance of the public and private sectors, working in concert to facilitate investments that generate returns, development and employment. The project includes: International workshop February 11-16, 2008. International experts and players in the public and private sectors participate in an interdisciplinary applied research effort. International congress July 2, 2008. Main Session at the UIA World Congress Torino 2008, dedicated to international cases of sustainable urban transformation.
