THE POST-INDUSTRIAL CITY
TURIN TODAY TOUR | URBAN ITINERARIES Presented by the Urban Center Metropolitano A route through the most important re-conversion and transformation projects undertaken in the former industrial areas of Turin, places that exemplify the social and cultural metamorphosis the city is going through. The tour, conducted via private bus, follows the railroad bypass, along the so-called "Central Backbone" from south to north (featuring, among other sites, the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, the Cittadella Politecnica and the Church of the Sacred Face), then proceeds eastward along the Dora river to reach other important projects, recently concluded or still in progress, only a few hundred meters from the center of town, like the Basic Village and the Cortile del Maglio.

TORINO TODAY TOUR | URBAN ITINERARIES Presented by the Urban Center Metropolitano The tour involves an in-depth examination of the transformation under way in the southern part of the city, with special attention to the infrastructures and systems installed for the XX Winter Olympics, held in Turin in 2006. The tour, via private bus, leaves from the new Lingotto, by Renzo Piano, then crosses over the railway on a walkway made famous by the red arch atop it, reaching the Olympic Village. Among the structures visited are the Olympic Stadium, the PalaOlimpico, the Palavela and the School of Biotechnolgy.

IVREA
Curated by GAC (Giovani Architetti del Canavese / Young Canavese Architects) The exhibit is installed in the open-air Modern Architecture Museum of Ivrea (MaAM), mostly along via Jervis and the surrounding area, which contains the most significant buildings linked to Olivetti. In following the thematic itinerary of the Museum, the different structures go from the first factory in red brick (1896), pass through the offices and homes designed by Luigi Figini and Gino Pollini, Ignazio Gardella, Eduardo Vittoria, Roberto Gabetti and Aimaro Isola, and end with the more recent office buildings designed by Gino Valle (early 1980s), illustrating the development of a primarily industrial project, though not without its social and cultural aspects, which marked an unquestionably original step in the Italian production scenario.

Presented by the OAT Foundation A tour of the capital of the Risorgimento and its architecture, from the Mole to Palazzo Carignano, where Victor Emanuel II was born; the reinvention of the medieval and the baroque periods through the eclectic flights of fancy of the architects of historicism; art nouveau and the new architectural lexicons that emerged in the city prior to the first industrialization, in the years of the 1902 International Exposition of Decorative Arts; the architecture of Modernism between the two world wars and the latest great architectural projects, realized for the 2006 Winter Olympics. |
