Chimere/Chimeras
May 16 -
July 19
Galleria "Weber & Weber" Via S. Tommaso 7, 10122 Turin Tuesdays through Saturdays , 4 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Free admission The exhibit intends to thematically pursue a study of modern Piedmont sculpture. The guideline is symbolism viewed as an historical-artistic phenomenon of European derivation, taken forward by Bistolfi's "literary" sculpture. Chimeras. Dreams and nightmares, vertigo and delirium. In which one passes from the limp vagueness of art nouveau nymphs to the flitting grace of sirens, moves from the ethereal volatility of dragonfly women to the hypnotic animal tension of devouring sphinxes, peeks at the idling afternoons of a faun or resists the horrid stare of the Medusa, returning to play with a naiad, slippery in her seductive ambiguity. Pagan mythology is obviously the dominant theme of the works in the exhibit, but they also often slip into allegorical variations or less "orthodox" symbolic meanings.
