XXIII UIA World Congress of Architects Torino 2008

Today, Sunday July 6, 2008, at the closing meeting of the Congress, three resolutions were approved.

1. The presidency of the International Union of Architects, currently held by Gaetan Siew, elected in Istanbul in 2005, will not only be shared with Giancarlo Ius, but will also be officially entered in the Annals of the UIA.

2. World Architecture Day, scheduled for October 6, 2008, will be dedicated not only to Giancarlo Ius but also to "Child Be the Architect", the song whose realization he had recently overseen.

3. The International Union of Architects will institute a new prize, to be awarded every three years: the "Giancarlo Ius Prize for Architecture", on the topic of "Child Be the Architect". The first edition of the awards ceremony is scheduled for 2011, in Tokyo.

When we remember Giancarlo, the first words that come to mind are generosity and energy. For us, he was an ever-present breath of fresh air. His guiding principles were and shall remain a moderate use of technology, respect for our shared legacy, participation, the transformation of the city into a generator of hope and respect for cultural diversity.
